Córdoba is a city located in the foothills of the Sierra Chica mountains on the Suquía river, the center of Argentina's most productive agricultural area. It is the capital of Córdoba Province.

Córdoba is a major industrial center, but retains many of it's historical buildings dating from the Colonial era.

As of 2003 Córdoba had a population of about 1,350,000 inhabitants, making it Argentina's second-largest city, the largest being Buenos Aires. Córdoba is located at 31°24? S 64°11? W



Barrios of Córdoba
Urca
Urca is the second most important district after Cerro de las Rosas. It is an upper class district. There is a supermarket called Super Urca that has been there for a long time. In Urca there are many clothing stores and restaurants. On the river bank is set the church of the district, called Maria Madre del Redentor. Urca's main avenues are Emilio Lamarca and Menendez Pidal.

Cerro de las rosas
Cerro de las Rosas is a very large district. There are a lot of famous restaurants like El Bodegón de Argüello, Rancho Grande, Restorante Italiano, Il Gatto, and clothes, food and sport shops. This is a traditional neighbourhood where the oldest houses in the area are located, as well as some schools like Academia Argüello, Juan Zorrilla de San Martin, Padre Claret, Zubiría, Fader, etc. There are pubs and disco clubs where young people go out at night. The most important avenue is Rafael Nuñez.

Nueva Córdoba
Nueva Córdoba is the biggest district in the area. It is home to shopping malls like Patio Olmos, big buildings, pubs, disco clubs, squares, restaurants, supermarkets and other entertainment and commercial centres. This district counts with a very important building, set in a corner of Hipólito Yrigoyen street, called Movistar, where major companies have their buildings there. An important cultural place is Palacio Ferreyra located in the corner of Hipólito Yrigoyen and Chacabuco. Most of the students that come from other provinces rent a flat in this area. Nueva Cordoba has a number of important avenues like Yrigoyen, and General Paz.

Centro (Downtown)
The Centro is the most important commercial area, with clothes, food, hardware, fishing equipment, shoes, computer shops, etc., as well as the most important banks like Bank of Córdoba and other privates. There's also a variety of restaurants with different food and prices, from McDonalds to Italian pasta or a Argentine asado barbecue in a typical restaurant. Sightseeing places include the San Martín square, the Manzana Jesuiticaan the Genaro Perez museum. Main avenues and streets are Humberto Primo, Colón avenue, General Paz, Dean Funes, and 27 de abril where most buses have a bus-stop.

Ciudad Universitaria (University Campus)
This district is located in the south area of the city, next to Sarmiento's Park. The Universidad Nacional de Córdoba has most of its faculties in this area. There are also a gym and football stadium, and tennis courts for the students. In this district the Córdoba Zoo is located.
